Artisan Profile
NiNi Myint is a Myanmar national with big dreams and the motivation to make them come true. Her consistency and focus have seen her bloom from a shy, meek and introverted disposition into a self-actualising entrepreneur.
A former zoologist, NiNi moved to Thailand to seek a better life for herself and to earn enough money to send back home to her family. Instead, she found herself in a ramshackle village with other Myanmarese migrants, with few opportunities and degrading work for low pay. The COVID-19 pandemic made things even worse as the tourist-dependent Koh Tao was closed to visitors, forcing many businesses to shut down.
With the help of the Warnborough Foundation, she chose to turn her passion for crocheting into making specially handcrafted fashion accessories such as bags, hats, baby clothing and more. Currently, she is studying on a small business course organised by the Foundation to increase her business nous. She is pleased to be selling her products internationally.
